Crypto Revolution

This year has been great so far for Bitcoin, our group Bitcuners have kept on with the DASH proposal and got it succesfully renewed for another 3 months. The price of DASH went sky high and our podcast has been picking up more viewers.

I hope my writting has been better lately because now I am an editor of a popular Bitcoin news site. Doing work for the news site has eat a lot of my blogging time, however, the reward of having such a great platform on a topic I love, has got me so happy.

Our cryptocurrency group has grown well beyond it’s infrastructure (space) and we should be looking for a larger platform. We have been pushing our group on social networks such as FB and Youtube and we would be able to gain more viewers.

Hope we can keep growing into events and accesibility for everyone in the market. Here are some videos that we were able to shoot during the meetup, people enjoying their time and also interacting and learning.

FLISOL 2015, review of the event

This year we accomplished another milestone, by we I mean the Tequila Valley Cancun group. We finalize a new FLISOL event. This one with way more support than the previous one. Although there are still a laundry list of things to improve, this definitely was a great effort, and an opportunity to evaluate how well we can play together.

The Free software installfest in Latin America got a great amount of attendance, mainly because this time we implement a press release which helped us gain an exposure we haven’t got before.

This time we had a platform to coordinate the tasks that were needed for the event. A type of canvas digital board called Trello. This gave us the chance to be able to delegate responsibility and improve our continuation.

Another big lift was the sponsorship from a major company that allowed us to not worry about space, and infrastructure (Desk, chairs, tables, etc). Which by the way, were top notch, although it’s a bit odd that in the end we couldn’t really used it as intended and end up handling the same projection presentation.

On the other hand we had a lot of things we really missed specially on promotion:

  • Visit universities and high schools, we missed many of them.
  • Academic ambassadors, people that help us from these schools.
  • Visit companies and provide a good outline of what the event is about for them to get there.
  • Promote it on more radio stations, TV shows and newspapers.

We also could have work out better on scientific software as well as games. The demos were something that we could have organize better not to say we missed showing off the VoIP, Media Center (to a degree) and the overall Linux Desktops.

Swag was something that we rushed in the end, but with better support this could have been much better. It was great we got T-shirts but with better swag we would have got USB with free software in it, as well as other things.

In the end what we need to do is also reflected on how this can benefit TQVCancun and I think that invitations were not offered as open as I would have wished for. To invite people to the group and make them members is something that could have helped the survival of the group and that is something we would need to pay more attention to in the future.

Stormy Cancun

So this had happened but it wasn’t really about a real storm. Today I had a dream while I took a midday nap because I woke up way too early. The dream was short but intense and involved living in an apartment like I do now, but not really the one i live in. Also there was kind of like a massive house party and people were coming and going everywhere. Later I realize they were mostly my friends from back home. They started teasing at me since I wasn’t really informed of this party and I got a bit upset.
Eventually we just did some joking around, and I was nervous trying not to get the party break stuff up on their drunkness or games.
All of a sudden a storm broke up, and it wasn’t a tipical storm, but like the arrival of a hurricane. In the middle of the night the clouds soon covered the sky and a few lightnings could be see at the distance. While the rain start brushing the ground like a water curtain, and inside, it was pouring. A very diagonal rain as the winds were also quite intense. I found like a garage under the house where I could keep dry even if the rain was coming in on a diagonal shape. I got some kindergarten plastic chair, pretty low to the ground, and started watching.
Soon my friends came to join me with a few beers and watched the lightning show and expecting for the power to be cut off anytime soon because of the winds.
There was some noise coming from the things being pushed off the street by the wind and even if we got some projectiles being thrown at us by the wind, it never got to the point to be harmful.
Eventually the wind died down, with the expectation of new rain coming thru. It was already some light of day and then we saw a military squad coming down the street with a dronecopter taking a visual angle on some shots of the damage. Quickly they built like a fence around our house and told us to get it back to the city council after the storm.
BTW the guy managing the drone, seemed to be his first time because he slam it against some advertising. Something that made me laugh.

First weeks in cancun, entrepreneurship and social network

It’s been a couple of weeks since I moved to cancun and things have been going quite well. I find myself with time for myself without restrictions. It also has clear my mind to think about the things I have been trying to do for quite a while.

I need to concentrate and practice my developer skills and start having a real focused mind on achieving my short and medium term goals on the FLOSS end as well as on the entrepreneurship side.

I also need to find a good way to reconnect socially and productivewise with local enterprises and perform well. I hope to do whatever is possible around the inmediate future and excel on some of the lagged work that needs to be taking care off like the certification material and the release of other materials that can work with other projects.

Cancun is a great place run things and the landfield is clear to enterprise new things.

Recently I watched social network, a movie than far from annoying me it inspire me about the way that enterprises get done. From great hacking to VC connections in california make the dreams of making lots of money. I dunno if it was the instant plug of projects like Mozilla, KDE, Python, Apache, Perl, MySQL and PHP.
