Wow I haven’t emailed in a while, what have I been doing? Well lots of things, and they just keep on comming. After having a great weekend in the mountains.
Now I am back to work with a new attitude since I just got a girlfriend. Wow, first time in my life I got a girlfriends. I mean formally. It feels nice to an extend but I surelly preffer just to enjoy the moment.
So what has been up recently?
Well, lots of cold weather (which isn’t that cold btw) and well just being happy. I think this are happy times for me and I am enjoying them.
InterAKT’s Party
Yesterday I went to InterAKT’s party and it was a great experience. It’s funny how romanians celebrate, jealousy and passionate stuff is also funny how similar and different at the same time is between culture. Sometimes it looked like a jr. high school flashback scene. Others it was more like a party up in some farm or village. Later I was told that many people are not urban and they are originally from rural areas.
The music like always was very odd as many folklore? music, and always a lot of gypsy-spanish songs all over the place and some manele. Back to reality, not much hip hop was around to actually make a good scene. Anyway I miss not having a girl since I couldn’t dance as much as I could.
Some good information was done with some of the people from upper-management. Which find out we have a similar PMI background.
Finally some good pictures from across the party:

G-Blender and OpenOffice.org
Well as a first part of the associate pages strategy I launched a new project about linking with other FLOSS communities. Gimp-Es and G-Blender look very promising, a lot of leadership is needed as well as consistency. Hopefully OpenOffice.org Español can give me their support to make this an example for OpenOffice.org.
R.I.P ODB
The most craziest rapper in history just pass out yesterday… I am really missing ODB for all his drunk monk style rapping that he brought to the hip hop table. One of the most intense rappers and performers just left us departing from his Manhattan studio after complaining about some chest pain.
ODB was one of my favorite rappers when it was all about not giving a f*ck anymore. About 3 years ago I was very scared on what might happened to Osiris since he was on a real run from the law, and from other sources that just nobody fully got him.
Anyway ODB, rest in peace GOD.
Firefox is Out
Well it seems Firefox is out now and MozParties are going wild through out the world. With Mexico City being the biggest party of them all. Also some cool logo for Guadalajara Mozparty event.
Firefox is really picking up now and we hope to have a great influence on the entire world. It already has been picked up by other free software projects like OpenOffice.org where their campaings are being discussed. Finally OOo tunneling
Well finally I could get access to OOo. This is a memorable event since I have been triying to get access for the past year with no success. Now that I am in I could happily say that I am in and there is nothing I can say but happy hacking.
Also stop by some cute new seaguls for the OOo project. These seagulls look like they havent missed any message from the OOo mailinglist…. ever.XpoLinux a success
Finally XpoLinux came to an end and it couldnt possibly came to a better ending. XpoLinux has come as a breath of fresh air to the community and their constant struggle to capture the attention of the enterprise.
Personally, I got a whole lot more of what I was expecting, from private talks to Louis Suarez-Potts and Maddog I gain not just experience but also more points in the global community.
One thing I liked was the way people was doing business in the tradeshow. Even if it could have been more crowded, the companies were sitting down with business people and making a real push on their strategy.
Me with the Monterrey Community
Ready for the Show
XpoLinux is HOT!!
Maddog was a great addition to XpoLinux
XpoLinux got everything
expect great things from OOo
Live from XpoLinux
So XpoLinux started yesterday, it has been incredible so far. Lots of people show up… well more than we expected anyway. We hope tomorrow would be even more. The trade show has been great also. The best part was the chance to talk with John “Maddog” Hall, and many of the local geeks and hackers across Monterrey.
We think this would be a great event on the following years. Clearly XpoLinux is the new show in town and is here to stay. I can’t wait to see this event reach maturity rather fast. There is a ToDo list of course and I think the experience we are getting is priceless. We are surely to visit Linux Tags as it would be a role model to reach on the next XpoLinux. We also realize that Wi-Fi is a most, we need to get the community more involved and also to reach our partners with far more time in advance. We already achieved things that havent been achieved by other macro events on their first edition like LinuxWorld when it first came out and have companies that has absolutely nothing to do with not even Linux, but with Tech at all. We also didnt had Mocosoft on our event like other open source events. We are going very strong with XpoLinux part 2 and we hope next year would double or quadruple across the board.Off to XpoLinux
Well finally the confirmation is just seconds to arrive and I am excited of finally be packing for XpoLinux where I would have the chance to see a whole lot of open sourcers comming into the Xpo and really seen what FLOSS is all about.
I am still waiting on the final flight schedule and I hope to depart tomorrow morning so a full night of washing ironing and packing my stuff for a whole week of work work work. Which remind me I need to do some contracts just to secure myself while staying there. My ToDo list is actually incrementing now that I remember to link my internet bank account with my current card. And my toe needs emergency nail operation to finalize with a getting a power extension. All this should be done on those little 6 days of conference. I bet there would be sweet pictures and I hope we can all get what we went there for.Gimp, Evolution and Gnome
I am facinated with the way gnome is evolving and is also on a funny I dont see myself switching to the GNOME desktop anytime soon. I think my XFCE does a really great job already, and no need to have a bulky solution. Well regarthless of that I am thinking about the new Evolution and the possibility an extension explosion. Nat vision of integrating the desktop is something that would become a trully killer app.
Gnome also has a new magazine which I wish it will benefit the community on major ways. I wouild say is more like an EZine, but the concept has been deteriorated so much. OpenOffice.org Es is in problems, we really need to help poor Richard Hold and I will make an effort to come with another try to get into the CVS and fixing the site myself. I think that we are loosing a lot of opportunity not supporting the community by collaborating. So I came up with the idea of making satelite webistes, the response has been mixed. And I think the problem is because most people didnt got what I the overal concept is about. Something like happy browsing campaing might be great for OOo.
