#DevThursday the battle between languages (and editors)

Yesterday was my first #DevThursday in my hometown, and it was pretty good althought a bit amateurish. The big topic of discussion was the old battle of the languages. PHP vs Java and also VIM vs Emacs. Most of the developers were PHP and only one Java developer so the development of course was more on the venue of Development high impact sites an large communities where PHP rise as hugly popular and almost unmatched. Sure there are many development projects around Java but the popullarity of WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, Moodle and other communities working on code builted on PHP. On the enterprise side, Sugar CMS and other enterprises like Facebook basing most of their development on the popular language.

Some of the arguments was the verbosity of Java, and the way JRE taxes the memory of most architectures and also how complex the language itself is.

PHP practicality to learn and deploy also makes it popular and viable as a business. The reputation Java on the enterprise has is also shun by how sucky the state of the enterprise is in Mexico.

C# and Microsoft was also mentioned including their Silverlight vs HTML5 argument about how Microsoft always seems to rely on the fud and how hard are the other platforms compared to them. At the same time, how most of this development become an issue when you need to debug and hack whatever the microsoft tools generate to them. Sure the tools save you time, but how much can they debug?

This was the openner to the discusion about the text editors versus IDE and most specifically vim vs emacs. With Emacs being the biggest challenge but also being the most rewarding as a geek. Emacs legacy is one of the most talked about, the shortcut maze to perform almost everything you could imagine is like the wholy grail of the competent developer. While IDEs on the other hand usually confuse people as in developing for a language as devoting to an IDE. Something that shows the rookines about how real man behaves.

New year with new projects in the OpenOffice.org space

So the project seems that have been fully migrated to Apache Software Foundation and new projects seems to be on the horizon. From a new build, to other projecs like the certification project, the development project and others. The education project activities seemed that will pick up a new level and be able to work on team of interns and would also fuel the project for the initial months of the project within the Apache realm.

OpenOffice.org in 2012 will see more hacking and releases under the new developers pushing code from other projects like Symphony and even a new ecosystem with ApacheCon people coming in the project.

ODF would also see the impact of the new OpenOffice.org project and I think that it would also be benefited by other projects that work on ODF implementations.

There is also the LibreOffice project that would be pushing their way on the code and be able to modify the way the office suite work. Would be interest to see how these suites become something else, making them more hackable.

Good luck to the OpenOffice.org project in 2012 and I hope that many projects continue the evolution of the project.

Cole rises to the occasion

I am very interested in this year Heat team. Although in part is because of all that commentary about this “new gameplan” by the Heat. From LBJ, Wade new 3pt attempt diet to a more fast and flashy way to attack the basketball.

Cole

What really surprised me was the rotation that Miami seems to have when they are playing. Sometimes is great like this one, where Cole really settle and drill some crticial shots to keep the Heat affloat till the game is over. But my greatest question is what happend to the other shooters. James Jones, and even Chris Bosh on the midrange. They were completely MIA from the rotation on the last quarter which was meant to be their time as Celtics changed to a zone position and gave the issues  that Heat had on the last quarter.

I wonder what Eric Spolstra have in mind and why he hide their shooters when the game is on the line.

NBA is on!! Bulls, Heat and upcoming highlights

Dwayne dunking on your ass

So the season is on and the spectacular plays that the Heat did yesterday were great. Wtih the other games such as Bulls vs Lakers and compare it with the rest of the schedule, it seems that there is going to be a very well packed package full of games.

First game of the Heat, they ran over the Mavs like it was nothing. Celtics was also beated by the Knicks and other teams like the Bulls make it harder competitors.

Magics seems to be swiming in mud, OKC seems to be revitalized, what about last years with the Grizzlies and what will they do this season. I doubt that San Antonio or Rockets will wake up this year, and even the Lakers seems to be finally out and about.

Even Sixers looks like a promising team this season. Today there are 12 games including some of the teams that didn’t play yesterday like Bobcats, Hawks, Denver and others.

Timberwolves, Warriors, Wizards and Nets seems to be uninteresting while some interesting personalities like KG being dirty again.

So I am excited about the season, I can’t wait to see Miami against Celtics next Tuesday 27th. So I have listened NBA Hangtime Podcast and I tend to agree. I suggest to follow them and see what will happened behind the scene.

So what are your picks, who should come on top and who will drop down.

International Playboy Problems

Now we are in some big problems after the international playboy just lost his groove. After a massive blowjob his dick just no longer work. His soul was sucked in by the last girl he would have thought off. Now he is lost on his way to Cuba through Mexico city trying to look for the magical herb that will help him step back up. But lets start from the beginning, after being in a mission abroad he met with this tall slim woman which was sweet and passionate about him. She and her daughter lived in the north part of the city and enjoy having him over almost every other day. That is before he had to realocate to another place. Meeting someone new and spending a new adventure he still try to keep a friendly relationship. With the new girl, she was wild, they had sex every other day and every other hour. She was insatiable. And that was the problem.

Now from all places we all rendevouz at the Airport and the electricity can be sense. The watery eyes on my ex as she hold tightly to her daugther as she talks to me and looks at my current gf. Is breaking my heart see her suffer like that, then again it result me a bit more surreal the way things played out.

Blogging from the bus

So yeah pretty bored right now since I am in the middle of nowhere next to an old stinky guy way passed his 2nd dream. But the insomnia maximuz here with irregular internet connectivity and just being 2am, make me want to chat with someone. So blogging is a good therapy at the moment.
It has been a while since I blog without a specific topic, these dream blogging has been alright and beneficial to my blogging consistancy. I hope december doesn’t go without some good posts.
So here is some of the things I have been through lately:
* So first some bad news, I got robbed, some nasty card clonning and debited around 800 dls of my account.
* OpenOffice.org interns has been a roller coaster, some has been excellent but other has been pretty sucky. However overal I have seen this project pretty positive.
* OpenOffice.org community itself has also has it’s up and down. Sometimes I feel a bit dishearting with all the way the comunity has completly manipulate this trademark against it’s own community.
* Xmass seems to be a bit private but I think I will have a good time. I really hope so.
* My life so far has been alright, I havent had huge issues so far. My needs and expenses are withing something controlled.
* My GNU/Linux skills have been a bit stagging although delivering this new course. I would probably keep researching over these topics such as the ERP, CRM and BI systems.
* NBA, excited about the new season. Can’t wait to see Lebron James rockin’ those rims.
* The local community seems to be ongoing now and well is good to see we are generating stuff, but I am a bit disapointed we haven’t grow that much.
Well I guess that’s all and I hope things pick up better on 2012.

Religion 2.0

Most of these religions are outdated and don’t really fit the modern society. Modern religions like humanism or singularity (transhumanism), or others like gaiaism. Also carry a less rigid structure of religion and more of an ideology, just like some asian religions like taoism, shintoism and confusionism mengle with Buddhism.

Judaism, Christianism and Islamism are all on a zero-sum game structure which is somewhat antiquated for modern times.

So what is religion. At it’s core religion tries two answer the two basic questions of humanity:

  • Where we come from?
  • Where we are going?

Then we have a second layer that takes care of basic moral rules on how we need to conduct. Since most of the previous answers usually talks about a ‘god’, this rules are tightly integrated with the concept of god’s law.

Second we have a set of locks or code, that the religious devoted should live by on regular life. Like “go to church every sunday” or “bless food before eating” or sanitary rules of “keep yourself clean”.

Most religions were actually old system political models, so as any kingdom or government the goal was trying to expand the kingdom so a set of rules to expand the religious army was needed. So you got the locks like, “you either marry your same religion, or make him convert” and “is illegal to convert to other religion or adore other gods“.

Most of these rules in modern age, are of course obsolete, and usually the way to address the core questions are usually what is more at stake to be consider a religion.

Society has change, and usually the competition on who got the biggest population is a non-issue. So many of these rules shouldn’t be enforced. So we are left with the two core questions. Science usually takes (or tries to seek) for a definite answer. So modern religious is inclusive of science, as well as think forward into alternative ways of potentially living (see posthumanism or transhumanism).

Also as this are more label as ideology, they could live together with other religions or ideologies. Just like Japanese-american show the merge of two cultures, Christian humanist is also a merge of different ideologies.

Becoming a pure “humanist” (or other modern religion) could happen as well.

Sorting out Transformers

So this seems to be a project now, I have been trying to sort out the Transformers series, specially fill in the holes on the storyline I watched as a kid.

Transformers-g1

So it seems to be a whole universe taken from the original transformers. The one that I remember was the original Transformers – More than meets the eye. Which now I understand was a mini series  consisting of 3 episodes.  Thanks to youtube I was able to watch the original series.

However Transformers in itself was a 2 generation series. Which I understand now is not what I thought it once was. From my point of view Generation 1 was up to when Optimus Prime and Megatron get replaced by Rodimus Prime and Galvatron. Which happened with the movie of the Transformers (the animated one). Which I sorely miss due to being a bad kid or my parents being to lazy to take me to it.

So now I find out that G2 wasn’t really there but later with a relaunch of the Transformers back in 92. But it was basically a rehash and remastered way of the original Transformers. (Need more clarification)

So G1 include the mini series, the movie, the new era, and also the Headmasters/Targetmaster which will evolve in Japan as a whole different series.

So G2 comes and goes and they return in 96 with Beast Wars, a series I did watch although not as religiously. The idea of Optimus prime as a Gorilla seemed odd. However Beast Wars evolved to Beast Machines which is a series I kinda remember hearing from it but never really watch it.

Beast_wars_167_1024

After Beast Machines, it came Transformers Armada which I did saw a few episdoes but the whole thing seemed a bit lost by then. I swaw a couple of shows and was excited about the animation which was cellshade but with interesting animation flow.

Transformers Armada evolved into Transformers Energon which is the evolution of Armada and then a new release is expected to be Transformers Cybertron, which I am still not sure if is what is now Transformers Prime

Transformers-prime-optimus

Probably need to put more research since there are also other transformers in between with Transformers the Animated series, Transformers Robots in Disguise (probably G2) and Beast Wars Neo.

I will leave alone the transformers recent movies since that seems like a whole different storyline.

Robots and patriots

Optimus

Today’s dream was another great sci fi flick although rather political for its nature. So the autobots and decepticon war was still starting or maybe the conflict was minimized during that period, I wasnt entirely sure. However the latest battle had a descepticon smaller robot prisioner and the autobots want it to give it to the humans as a gift.
They threw a plane as an extra and pack their trip to earth through the hyperspace wormholes.
As we were aproaching earth they wanted to make contact with their human that discovered them. Instead they needed to deal with the military. This earth however had just went through a large world war and the comunist countries were the strongest. Both the US and China were severly damaged and Rusia, Venezuela, Chile, Romania and Spain formed a communist league which were leading the reconstuction post war. Thats where the autobots delivered the gift as well of some defense and infrastructure technology to rebuild the world.
The event to recieve such gifts was also an open invitation for Mexico to join the union. However the closeness with the US made it hard to go one way or the other.
In the end I had to stay with an old friend, she was a beautiful agent from Romania. Her sister was also not bad and while I saw her coming back from the base in that boring secretary suit, her sister was already cooking naked on the kitchen. Tonight we will celebreate all three in the same bed. But a report had to be sent before I have to go back to the space base.
In the end I was thinking on how these governments will hold up with so many other countries, many sleeping giants with a different idea on rulling and some even with a rejection to a concept of government itself. Treating people like an army was never a good idea, nor treating them like in constant scare of poverty making a big government as the only provider.
We have to get back to the report before the girls finish the dinner….
