Como motivar el emprendurismo

Durante esta semana, tuve una platica con unas personas que estan muy involucrados con estimular el emprendurismo local. Sin embargo despues de la reflexion que tuve en varias platicas, y tambien de podcasts que he escuchado, como emprende.la y this week in startup. Algo que veo comunmente es muchas personas piensan en las universidades como el detonador unico de lo que se quiera. Sin embargo cada vez las universidades van perdiendo reelevancia y la verdad es que es muy disruptivo el mundo en que vivimos, creo que solo hay que resolver dos factores.

Como presentamos la opcion, y como la documentamos. El ir tras las universidades no es mala idea, puede ser una gran plataforma, sin embargo, si nos presentamos via la universidad tenemos el riesgo que se vea como parte del trabajo y quitar ese sentido de “diversion” que hace que la gente se interese por si misma mas que porque es parte de la tarea.

Cuales son los sentimientos del emprendedor? Para poder tener un buen sentido del emprendimiento quizas debamos analizar los factores fundamentales que motivan al emprendedor. En otras palabras, que es lo que crea la visión. Cuando vemos a una persona haciendo una empresa, erroneamente la llamamos emprendedor. Sin embargo esto no es del todo cierto, por lo menos no es del tipo que nos interesa necesariamente. Por que? Por que pueden haber emprendedores por necesidad, por ejemplo nadie lo quizo contratar asi que puso su changarro.

Existe el emprendedor por que quiere ser su propio jefe, este emprendedor ha tenido empleos en el pasado, pero se quemo tanto que ahora quiere ser su propio jefe. Con que el sea el manda mas, y pueda vender, todo esta bien. Este emprendedor, no es malo tampoco, de hecho muchos emprendedores estan en este rango, sin embargo ellos estan enfocados en sobrevivir. La motivación mas grande es crear dinero y la ruta de como lo generen quizas es el segundo paso. Aquí la innovación no es demasiado investigada, realmente lo que se quiere es tener mas clientes, y el producto sea el que se espera pero nada mas ni nada menos. A menos que un cambio fuerte lo forze esta empresa hara siempre lo mismo por siempre.

La clase que nos interesa es la clase que tenemos de emprendimiento por innovación, y en esta la empresa no es el foco de atención. La empresa es una parte del proceso de ejecutar la visión. Cual es esta visión? Es la de resolver un problema.  Muchas veces estos emprendedores se catalogan como obsesionados con resolver el problema, y la empresa es un facilitador que permita operar y generar recursos para resolver este problema. Esta clase de emprendimiento realmente es de la mejor clase ya que el espiritu de emprendimiento es potenciado por un sentimiento que va mas aya de supervivencia (alias temor a morirse de hambre) y aplica a conseguir algo que el quiere (ambisión y deseo).

El 2ndo tipo de emprendimiento, es un deseo a tener cosas que garantizen su supervivencia. El tercer tipo es el deseo a obtener algo, donde es solo el gusto y la tesonería de ver su meta completada. Pensemos en ser un fan de un equipo de deportes, y la ambición de ver tu equipo ganar puede mas que muchas otras cosas que normalmente no contemplarias.

Como motivamos a este tipo de emprendimiento. Quizas la pregunta mas dificil de contemplar, y desafortunadamente aun no tengo una respuesta, pero tengo ciertas ideas. Quizas mas personas puedan opinar desde un punto de vista mas experimentado como psicología humana, y comportamientos predominantes de este caracter.

Realmente es importante entender que estamos estimulando un sentimiento, así que es muy importante el mensaje “no verbal” como la presentación del mensaje.

Las escuelas de mercadotecnia usualmente se conoce como comportamiento del consumidor. Analisis psicologicos apuntan a metas emocionales mas que un mensaje directo. Relacionar la marca con un momento feliz en su vida es mas importante quizas que vean la marca diciendoles por que deben comprar sus productos.

Recordar el perfume que llevava tu novia en esa primera cita versus, ver un super espectacular en la calle de la marca del perfume es quizas un ejemplo mas claro donde se dirige este mensaje.

Pero, como seducimos al sujeto a tener este tipo de reacción. Usualmente la respuesta es que — tiene que venir de el. Posicionarnos en lugares donde pueda despertar la curiosidad del individuo. Spokesman o voceros con un renombre que puedan despertar una aspiración por parte del sujeto es critico, el segundo paso es la accesibilidad a la información.

Muchas veces podemos despertar el sentimiento de curiosidad, pero si no hay un segundo paso, esta curiosidad muere. Usualmente en los eventos, esto pasa asi. Los eventos pueden capturar la atención del individuo, tambien despertar sus deseos, sin embargo la falta de seguimiento, o de accesibilidad a la información hacen que estos deseos desaparescan.

Podemos medir cuantas veces debemos tener interacciones con el sujeto para poder inspirarlo a hacer algo? Bueno ese algo depende del grado de que tan convencido este que esto funciona, que le beneficie y que pueda palpar su efectividad. Este paso es una prueba de vida. Una garantia que pueda sentir que vale la pena lunchar por esta. El tour por una fabrica quizas sea suficiente para convencer a los sujetos que esto existe, que esta produciendo y que puede ser suyo si se apegan. Sin embargo, debemos cuidar que este mensaje no este desvirtuado por el dinero, o el estatus, sino por el deseo de querer algo. Esto me recuerda a un comercial de Michael Jordan donde el se hecha la culpa de haber ganado todos esos campeonatos. Veanlo aquí.

Quizas es mi culpa. Quizas es mi culpa que te hize pensar que esto era facil cuando no lo era. Quizas te hice pensar que mi carrera empezo en la linea de castigo y no en el gimnasio. … Quizas te hice pensar que basketball era un don de dios y no algo que tuve que trabajar todos los dias de mi vida. Quizas destrui el juego, o quizas solo estas poniendo excusas.

Al final creo que es un reto de venta, como podemos vender el sueño del entrepreneur sin desvirtuar la visión. Como podemos hacer para entregar información de calidad y empujar la conversación a incluir a estas nuevas personas. Pero tu que piensas? Que crees que puede haber de aquí para motivar el emprendurismo?

Day two of the OOoCon

So the day started a bit shaky, I thought I missed my talk because the sun was shining pretty bright. I find out I was fine, so I took it easy and had enough time to start working on my talk which was the first one of the day. I had some breakfast and then took off to downtown Budapest. However, I forgot which station I need to get off and I find out that I left too early, I was worried that I was late for my talk because I heard that today we will start at 8am. I got off the sub around 7.56 and walked in circles since I couldn’t find my way to the University. I was relief when I find out that the day actually started at 9am. Since I arrived at 8.16 I had enough time to sit and prepare my slides for the talk.

Since it was early in the morning and other interesting talks were going on I had a relative few people, just 4 people came to the talk. However thanks to the Bulgarian recording every talk, this one will be available for others to see on the stream and later on. The talk went quite well, I caught myself babbling a bit but pulled myself together.

Future plans for the drupal sites in OOo are unify the user accounts to OOo. So maybe OAuth could be implemented although he didn’t mentioned about it.

Italo the master of PR talked about the OOo Today is growing but still not enough since the buzz is not being pushed in the US. He mentioned about the story of Microsoft and how they screw up when they wanted to push it’s use of a 100% out of a 95% provoking a customer focus. We have to add the advantages besides than saying that is a good product in the market. He presented a chart that show the lifecycle and how they cross the chasm and major adoption happens. Then is the pragmatism is when the userbase matures. Italo mentioned the Google channels and how OOo could basically adopt that same or similar relations with resellers. The conversation connected with the Certification project as well as the BizDev project. This however will permeate to the domestic market.

The next session was the Strategic marketing plan session, an intensive 3 hour session that talked about the future of the marketing teams, it’s goals and the message for the new landscape. We now have Google Docs and other new parallels of collaboration and productivity like the failed attempt of Google Wave. A web 2.0 era, where we have a more detailed project on handling the message and reach out to the users. Other options like OOo as a well recognized brand but the community doesn’t bring themselves up-par with the rest of the context of OOo.

The SMP session really took a lot of my energy from the day so I had to skip the next session and enjoyed a nice nap at the lounge area of the university. Although a more private space could be down at the basement. I’ll see if I can do that tomorrow. So the event went quite well in general and after the talks we went to the boat ride, which I didn’t register but was able to pay at the entrance. I had the unfortunate luck of having a Microsoft Rep next to me during the ride so I wasn’t able to speak freely about OOo. However this allow us to talk about different nationalistic difference within the US and other talks about the impact of technology and information overflow. The chatting was quite good and easy going and the food was really good, nothing spectacular like Orvieto last year but it was really nice to have that while watching the scenery of Budapest at night along the river.

2009 for OpenOffice.org

At the end of 07 I decide to point most of my energe to the OpenOffice.org project. Increasing my presence and entreprising new things. I put a goal after coming back from Barcelona. To have the Open for business project a reality. A few days before OOoCon2008 with the release of OOo 3.0. The Open for business project was launched.Right after I left to europe to start enterprising the idea and presenting it to governments. This generated a great relationship with many countries in South america and Spain. Right now we are still about to get our first relationship officialized but work has already started with some projects and I think this will be benefitial to everyone.Also I start pushing to become a leader or co-leader of other openoffice.org projects like the BizDev project and the Education project. Both projects have been very benefitial for the rest of us.The first stage is to improve the visibility of the site, make it more appealing to browse and concentrate on providing better content. After these is settle the next step should be about having programs and processes to increase the level of volunteers and communicators. Making it easy to stay in touch and scheduling activities to understand the liveliness of the community.At the moment the site has increase their look and feel and soon we will also have better content to browse.Having project surveys might be another way to go about it but at the end of the day visibility is where is at.  Being in touch with the podcasting community as well as having a good strategy to promot our project is a great way to start. Having newsletters digged and slashdotted is also a great way to gain attention. Since then I have gather a marketing team to help us settle the framework for this visibility and help us achieve better workflow of the new members.I think the future is really bright in 2009 with a lot to do but hopefully with finally a large amount of profitability.

BizDev Reloaded

BizDev was a great idea that became a project but went stalled for a while. Having taken over the BizDev Project and showing the potential to the corporations on including OpenOffice.org in their strategy is clearly something that will start to develop the market interest.One of the main things is reportrait OpenOffice.org as a platform. thanks to the provement of OpenOffice.org industry acceptance. The idea of the development of applications whenever they are within OpenOffice.org, extensions or 3rd party products that connect to the application.OpenOffice.org as a platform can get the industry intterested and with a more clear view from the profitability model.Other ideas like a marketplace is also a great idea on the backburner on having a collection of companies showing up on the OpenOffice.org and having the community seal of approval.BizDev will definetly change for the best once that the communication start stearing up and the ideas become faster to implement.

Drafting a marketing plan for Mozilla Mexico

So lately Mozilla Mexico has been a bit disconnected. The work on the side of the community including the mailing list has been little to non-existent. However even with the uncertainty that surround this community after the summer I have manage to get some work done including the creation of a marketing plan. Althought as a community leader I want this to be a more distributed work. Get people to work on tiny little pieces and enrich the program working together.So during a Hornets at Boston game which I really enjoyed, I start writing on the marketing plan and start gaining from the work. The marketing plan was drafted from the skeleton from OpenOffice.org’s Strategic Marketing Plan.The skeleton covered key aspects of the marketing environment including the analisys of competition, environment, segmentation and many other entities.I am including the strategic marketing plan in case you want to review. So far I do a lot of analisys on competition and has sort of a good idea on how to aproach some of the biggest challenges that we have which start with communication and end with education and visibility.

Marcons and highlights

When we wanted to talk about marketing contacts (MarCons) we wanted an entrepreneurial type that has the community interest in mind and can develop an expectation for the project leads to do their work.However these work involved the publicity of the community. What happens here is simple, the publicity of the community is a very light thing to say. Anyone can develop community publicity. So why would we want a project lead?Here is something new, the ego on egoboo. We can get the development without the selfishness. In the end a good lesson was learn and that is to get the other interests into account too. Asking on why are you into this for is important justt to be on the same page.
